The idea isn’t exactly brand new. No, Eco-conscious couples have been implementing greener options into their big day for a while now. And for good reason. Last year, there were over 2 million weddings in the U.S. With an average of 136 guests per wedding. Try to imagine the number of invitations and Save-the-Dates sent, glass and plastic favors, floral centerpieces and transportation vehicles (to name a few) that adds up to be. Do you see where I’m going with this?
In the midst of planning your dream wedding, it’s hard to think about your carbon footprint (the sum of all emissions of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, which are produced by your activities and/or event) or the ever growing landfills. But the impact of 2 million weddings on our planet is tremendous. A single wedding produces an average of 62 tons of carbon dioxide and 600 pounds of garbage. Astonishing, isn’t it?
Don’t worry, I’ve got good news here. Even if you choose to add just one green element to your wedding, you make a difference. Wait, it gets better. You don’t have to sacrifice beauty and elegance to have an Eco-friendly wedding. Be Eco-chic.
There are plenty of options available to you that are every bit as beautiful as the less earth-friendly choices (we’ll cover these in detail, I promise!). Making it easy for you celebrate your love and help save our environment. It doesn’t get much better than that!
